INVITING AND PROVOKING NARRATIVE-BASED CONVERSATION

It is one thing to craft a well-made story; it is quite another to engage people in the creation of a narrative that gives them sense of where they come from and where they are seeking to go. Hosting the making and sharing of story is a critical skill for all leaders.

People naturally create stories to make meaning of what is happening around and among them, and communities are formed largely by the narrative sense that they share.

StoryTalks focuses on the actual practice of using story in organisations. Telling those stories with focus and flair is a part, but equally important is opening stories to conversation, so that a wider group can be involved in their ongoing development and re-telling, and so that the story might become a part of the culture of the organisation.

Outcomes to expect:

  • We will explore the elements of story making that invite collaborative creation of narrative.
  • You will practice the craft of working spontaneously with others in developing story.
  • We’ll give you tools for helping to engage others in creating stories that resonate with their lived experience.
  • You will use simple and useful frameworks for drawing together the threads of narrative into satisfying organisational stories.

For your ongoing leadership and facilitation, we will give you a framework of tools that will support the stories you create with others.

This Studio can be presented as one full-day session or over two half days.  Or, as with all of our curriculum modules, we can draw on this Studio content to create one or more shorter, express sessions for your team, diving into elements of StoryTalks, providing familiarisation, inspiration and ideas to take forward.

Whichever format works best for your team, we will tailor content to directly address your organisational needs, as framed in the initial consultancy.
