CONTRASTING VOICES IN CO-OPERATION AND INNOVATION

Creating together requires a specific way of working together – bringing opposite points of view into robust conversation, rather than simple compromise.  It means creating the conditions for novelty to emerge.

Creative practice is often seen as an idiosyncratic, individual pursuit. But organisations need creativity at scale. They need innovative outcomes from diverse teams that draw from across business lines and even from beyond the boundaries of the organisation.

So where can they look for models of creative practice that will equip their teams with a framework for innovation?

Theatre making is such a collective practice of creativity: a multiplicity of bodies and voices bringing colour to a creation far richer than the individuals alone could make.

In fact we all create by working in company: building something new by responding to what we see, hear and experience.

This Studio will introduce practices used by creative artists to accelerate the creative process by putting contrasting voices into active conversation within the constraints of a production deadline. These are skills that can be used by long-standing or short-term teams to drive radical innovation and greatly enrich creative output, be that innovation for creating something new or responding to change.

What you can expect:

  • The Studio will be set up as an active creation or planning session.
  • We will build on a foundation of techniques from creative practice that will serve for individuals or teams.
  • You will learn the dynamics of working together in a context of creation, including requisite roles and ‘rules of engagement’ to enable new insights to emerge.
  • The Studio will work practically on a real-world ‘wicked problem’ – one where the goal posts are unknown or keep moving – working with practical tools that can deliver practical, usable outcomes.

In your work beyond the studio we will help you establish useful working patterns that will help your team to be agile and resilient.

This Studio can be presented as one full-day session or over two half days.  Or, as with all of our curriculum modules, we can draw on this Studio content to create one or more shorter, express sessions for your team, diving into elements of Collaborative Creativity, providing familiarisation, inspiration and ideas to take forward.

Whichever format works best for your team, we will tailor content to directly address your organisational needs, as framed in the initial consultancy.
