Kate Gaul is a highly regarded theatre director based in Sydney.  A graduate of the NIDA Director’s Course (1996), Kate also trained with theatre luminary Anne Bogart and the SITI Company in New York.  In 2004/5 Kate was the Associate Director at the Ensemble Theatre.  Kate is Artistic Director of Siren Theatre Co and was Festival Director for World Interplay from 2008 to 2011.

Kate has prolific directing credits over 20 years.  She has directed multiple productions for Australia’s major theatre companies, is a driving force in the vibrant independent scene and regularly works with major drama schools around Australia.   She has directed productions for Company B, Belvoir St Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre, Merrigong Theatre Co, Pinchgut Opera, Sydney Chamber Opera, Oz Opera, Mudlark Theatre, Carriageworks, and many, many more. Her production of The Violent Outburst That Drew Me To You (by Finegan Kruckemeyer) was nominated for a Sydney Theatre Award and the work received a 2014 AWGIE Award (both in Theatre For Young Audiences categories), and her 2015 production of Misterman received three Sydney Theatre Awards, with five nominations.

Kate has collaborated with Tony Weir, to develop InPlay Arts’ Studios on voice, body and story, for use in presence and presentation for business.
